Book Gifting

Book Gifting

We believe it is never too early to enjoy books. Our community book-gifting programme starts from birth when health visitors gift a book on our behalf at the baby’s 10-day notification visit.

Book-gifting takes place right across all our projects and is an important part of the work we do.

We gift books at our events,at the local baby clinic, on home visits and as part of all our ongoing literacy programmes.

As well as gifting books we also provide other resources including nursery rhyme booklets and cards, puppets and craft activities.

We give books and packs of books to babies and young children from birth to age 4 throughout the year. Children who are old enough can choose their own books that they would like to read and keep. Book-gifting takes place at the following events and settings:

  • As part of our ‘Family Support at Home’ programme
  • At the weekly Well-Baby Clinic
  • At our Baby and Toddler Rhymetime
  • At Christmas
  • In partnership with community health visiting teams.
We also give out books as part of our Craigmillar Stories for Sharing and Express Yourself! programmes and events.

Myra Robertson Book of the Year

The Myra Robertson Book of the Year was created in memory of a wonderful woman who came to Baby and Toddler Rhymetime each week with her grandchildren. Every year parents/carers put together a shortlist of books for local families to vote for their favourite. The winning title becomes the Myra Robertson Book of the Year.

The Craigmillar Books for Babies One Year Bag, which is given to all one-year-olds in Craigmillar, includes the book that was voted Myra Robertson Book of the Year.
